For a special shoot with our spring/summer 17 highlight pieces, we teamed up with Delia Fischer, the power woman and founder of Westwing.
Her business idea sounds as simple as it has proven to be genious: Making homes more beautiful! In 2011, the online interior shopping-club Westwing was born, and since then it has grown to a big company that sells in more than 14 countries, with 400 employees in the north of Munich.
Beside her keen eye for living, she has a passion for fashion. So we had the chance to meet Delia in her new office with her trusted companion – the Frenchie Lola – to photograph her favorite Laurèl looks in a special setting.
Read the second part of the interview here:
Your dog Lola is always by your side, how does this affect your working life?
It’s so good to have her around all the time, she reminds me to make some breaks to go for a walk and get some fresh air which is a very good side effect of a dog.
You moved with the whole company to a brand new office, what is your favorite spot?
Besides my own office, I really like our meeting rooms which are arranged in different styles like Scandinavian, country house or boho chic. But my fave is the loft room which is not furnished like a typical meeting room but more like a living room with a big velvet couch, coffee tables and beautiful wallpapers. Creativity flows there and it’s the perfect spot for design meetings.
What is your perfect business outfit?
I don’t like it too classic. I work in a creative field and deal with a lot of fabrics and colors, therefore my outfits need to have a creative twist as well. I’m very trend orientated not only when it comes to interior, even my business suits need that certain something, like the light blue combination with culotte and short jacket that I wore during the shoot.
What was your favorite look during our shooting?
The glen check suit has a very feminine cut but also retro flair, which is a refreshing combination. The classic pattern makes it cool. It would be a great look for a business meeting.
What are the touching points of interior in fashion from your point of view?
There are a lot of similarities. For example, most people have the same style in fashion and interior. Someone who likes clear cut fashion also goes for purist furniture. When people ask me which color they should choose for their homes I recommend taking a look at their wardrobe first. Colors you feel comfortable in will also work out for your own four walls.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say eclectic, which means to combine old and new to a unique creation. I also love to set some feminine highlights, for example with a sweet pillow. When it comes to fashion, it is more or less the same. I love elegant dresses with a glamourous touch; however I would set a contrast with a small statement bag.
Which pieces belong in every wardrobe?
Every woman needs a good blue jeans and a soft cashmere pullover. My personal favorite piece which I wear for some years now is a brown suede jacket. For me it is also important to arrange my closet with little details like scented paper. So when you open the door you smell a beautiful perfume matching to the seasons, my favorite papers are from crabtree & evelyn.
What is your favorite place in your house and what is important to you regarding its interior?
My grey velvet couch is the place to take a little break and relax after a long workday. For me home is a feeling which can be underlined with certain accessories, it pays off if you invest some love decorating your house. You should think about how you want to arrive after a long day, what you need to feel comfortable. Maybe it’s a chair for your jacket at the entrance or a scented candle. This varies but it’s a long term invest in your own wellbeing, because happiness is homemade.
What is your favorite travel destination and what are your plans for holidays this summer?
Two years ago I went to Tulum, Mexico. This little city, which is more a street at the ocean, has an expressive style – casual and detailed at the same time. This year I would like to spend my summer vacation on one of the Greek Islands like Mykonos, Santorini or Mylos. The European summer is one of a kind and there are so many beautiful places to explore.
